Black People and Perfect Shape Essay In the short stories of â€Å"Why Looks Are the Last Bastion of Discrimination† and â€Å"The â€Å"Black Table† Is Still There† there are many differences from both stories. Both stories talk about the different sizes, shapes, color, and how people are being racist. The first story â€Å"Why Looks Are the Last Bastion of Discrimination. † They first talked about how in the 1994 in Texas they did not want an obese lady to be a bus driver because of how big she looked. The company doctor stated that she was not up to the task because he said she was â€Å"waddling down the hall† (Rhode). All though he did not even perform any agility test on her to even see if she would be able to evacuate the bus in case of any emergency and get the kids off the bus in time. That was similar to the second story whereas in 1995 he was surprised when he walked into the cafeteria and noticed that they had a â€Å"black† table. He thought after this long that he would never run into something like that again. He never understood the â€Å"black† table â€Å"what did it mean? † (Rhodes) He never took the chance to sit there because he always thought if he would sit there that would be making a statement of â€Å"I was afraid that by sitting at the table I’d lose all my white friends† (Rhodes). They were discriminating against the â€Å"black† men because he would not sit at the â€Å"black table† as what they would call it. This man just refused to be labeled and would not sit at this table and he would always into the cafeteria with â€Å"white† people. Segregated was something that he never understood as a kid and he was very shocked when he went into the junior high after twenty-seven years to still see that there was a black table. In the first story they had a case in 2006 in New, Jersey where a cocktail waitress had gained some weight. They never thought anything about it just that she was getting fat and that was not a good look for their waitresses. In the contract it even stated to keep ‘an hourglass figure† that was â€Å"height and weight appropriate† (Rhodes). When she went to order a larger shirt they denied her because they said their waitresses do not go up on size unless they have had breast implants. They unfairly discriminated this young lady because she was not â€Å"the perfect shape and size†. Actually what is the perfect shape and size in society? Is anybody really the â€Å"perfect† size or is everybody their own shape. In the second story they were very racist because nobody cared to segregate and change how everybody sat in the cafeteria. Everybody always assumed that he should sit at the â€Å"black† table but he refused to sit there. Graham always wondered why they would all segregate themselves like that but he noticed when he went back to the junior high twenty-seven years later he noticed that now it was not just the blacks that were segregated; the athletes, Italian, kids that were into heavy medal and smoked pot also all had their table that they called their own. In the first story they also discriminated in 2001 to Jennifer Portnick when they denied he of being an aerobics instructor because her â€Å"image† did not look like she was fit since she weighed 240 pounds. Come to find out Jessica was very fit and toned â€Å"she would work out six days a week, taught back-to-back classes, and had no shortage of willing students† (Rhodes). It is really sad that this has gotten a lot worse since 2001. People do not get the chance at certain because they are overweight or because of their appearance. In this time we should not be having the entire discrimination because of size, shape, or even race. According to the first story we still have a lot of these things going on and with Rhode he was shocked that he still saw the â€Å"black† table in the junior high twenty-seven years later. Why would people separate themselves? That is a question that will never have an answer because it is something that is still going on in this day. If discrimination was taught to us to be so wrong why would we want to keep this going? Should this not be a cycle that we want to stop and teach our kids something different about this? Discrimination will probably be something that we deal with forever even though it is not good.

Since consultants often use difficult or creative analytical approaches, clearly articulating tasks and defining outputs is very important. In addition, he exercises the appropriate level of supervision. Rather than micro-managing his team members, [name] establishes clear accountabilities and expectations and pushes work down to the correct level. As a result, he creates a strong sense of ownership and leverages the skills of his team members. Furthermore, he excels at creating a supportive environment and, when necessary, coaching team members to help them develop new skills.    Finally, [name] is a masterful communicator. He is the only project manager I have had who gave me consistent and constructive feedback, importantly, both positive and negative. Intrapreneurship improves the economical and financial performance of the company, by applying a more efficient use of the resources and by using a suitable motivational system for its employees (Istocescu, 2003).Similarities and differences between entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship Unlike the entrepreneur, the intrapreneur acts within an existing organization. The intrapreneur is the revolutionary inside the organization, who fights for change and renewal from within the system. This may give rise to conflicts within the organization, so respect is the necessary key in order to channel these conflicts and transform them into positive aspects for the organization.Even though intrapreneurs benefit from using the resources of the organization for the implementation of the emerging opportunities, there are several motives why innovation is more difficult to implement in an existing organization, such as (Malek & Ilbach, 2004): †¢ The size: the bigger the organization the more difficult it is to have an overview of the actions of every employee †¢ Lack of communication: Specialization and separation, help in concentr ating on the areas of interest, but hinder communication. Internal competition: Internal competition amplifies the problem because instead of sharing the knowledge with others it borders the knowledge sharing. Everyone wants to keep the information for themselves. †¢ Feedback received in case of success/mistake: Costs in case of failure are too great and the reward for a successful outcome too small. Intrapreneurs must be allowed to commit mistakes, because such mistakes are an inevitable part in the entrepreneurial process. The recognition of success is also very rare.No company provides payment in advance for what an entrepreneur might accomplish, but a lot of them like to talk about the concept of intapreneurship and expected their employees to get involved and assume their risk. But finally, when motivated employees get involves and have success their only reward is a small bonus. †¢ Dullness: Many companies are slow and reluctant to change. Intrapreneurs bump many tim es into the well known sentence â€Å"We always did it this way†, which leaves little or no space to creativity.The willingness to try new things appears only when the company's shortcomings become apparent, but even so they don’t give room to an innovative leadership. †¢ Hierarchies: Organizational hierarchies compel employees to ask permission for actions that fall outside their daily duties. The more complex the hierarchy the more difficult it is to impose change. Those who wish to implement innovative ideas should first consider what the best option for them is: as an intrapreneur, as part of an existing organization, or an entrepreneur in a newly established company. In order to give an answer to this question an analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of both concepts is required. Both require a unique business concept that takes the form of a product, process, or service. Both are driven by an individual champion who works with a team to bring the concept to fruition. Both require that the entrepreneur be able to balance vision with managerial skill, passion with pragmatism, and proactiveness with patience.Both involve concepts that are most vulnerable in the formative stage, and that require adaptation over time. Both entail a window of opportunity within which the concept can be successfully capitalized upon. Both are predicated on value creation and accountability to a customer. Both entail risk and require risk management strategies. Both require the entrepreneur to develop creative strategies for leveraging resources. Both involve significant ambiguity. Both require harvesting strategies. Differences †¢ In start-up entrepreneurship, the entrepreneur takes the risk in intrapreneurship and the company takes the risk other than career-related risk. In start-up the individual entrepreneur owns the concept and business in intrapreneurship; the company typically owns the concept and intellectual rights with the individual entrepreneur having little or no equity in the venture at all. †¢ In a start-up potential rewards for the individual entrepreneur are theoretically unlimited where in intrapreneurship an organizational structure is in place to limit rewards/compensation to the entrepreneur/employee. †¢ In a start-up venture, one strategic gaffe could mean instant failure; in intrapreneurship the organization has more flexibility for management errors. †¢ In a start-up the entrepreneur is subject or more susceptible to outside influences; in intrapreneurship the organization is more insulated from outside forces or influence. †¢ †¢ †¢ †¢ †¢ †¢ †¢ Source: Morris, 2000Other famous authors have also pinpointed some differences between entrepreneurship and i ntrapreneurship. Even though intrapreneurship is rooted in entrepreneurship (Amo & Kolvereid, 2005; Antoncic, 2001; Davis, 1999; Honig, 2001), there are several differences between these two concepts. In this context Antoncic & Hisrich (2003) note that while intrapreneurs make risky decisions by using the resources of the company, the entrepreneurs make risky decisions using their own resources (Antoncic & Hisrich, 2003). Intrapreneurship takes place among employees from within an organization while entrepreneurship tends to mainly be externally focused (Antoncic & Hisrich, 2003; Davis, 1999).Entrepreneurs prefer to develop tacit knowledge, in new organizations, instead of using procedures and mechanisms from other companies. On the other hand intrapreneurs work in organizations that have their own policies, procedures and bureaucracy (Antoncic & Hisrich, 2003; Davis, 1999). 974 Volume 12, Issue 5, December 2011 Review of International Comparative Management Although there are sever al differences between entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship, they also have some connections because intrapreneurship is consistently positioned as entrepreneurship within organizations (Antoncic, 2001; Davis, 1999). Conclusions In this paper we have reviewed the literature, which explores both entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship and the relations between them.An important outcome of the review is the identification of the similarities and differences between entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship and also the advantages and disadvantages of both concepts. Nowadays, when we are facing economically difficult times, entrepreneurship and inrapreneurship are an excellent tool for breaking out of the trend trough innovation, by bringing something new on the market. Both entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship are instruments of innovation that help in creating new competencies and accessing new markets. Finally, without developing the insight towards these various aspects, no change of t he company can be realized, and changing, so adapting means in fact, the survival of that company.The value created yesterday, can mean nothing today, therefore only a sustainable company, who recognizes the difference between an entrepreneur and intrapreneur, can turn ideas and creativity into successful new values for tomorrow. My First Day At School - 923 Words

It was my final week before summer break came to an end. I hated being the only child, living with my parents, who needed to prepare for the commencement of school. But, what made that thought even worse was having to attend a brand new school. The physical portion of everything was already finished. To start off, I ironed my clothes, bought school supplies, and organized each piece of material I’d need to use on my first day. On the flip side, I was not mentally organized for this new chapter in my life. Being a skinny African American that stands 6 feet tall didn’t help either. Ignoring the burden of wanting to fit in, I finally executed my final task that night, sleeping. The next day, August 17th, started the 2015-2016 school†¦show more content†¦Individuals carrying out equipment finished faster than I expected, because within the next 5 minutes, Stephon began roll call and we were off to Penn Hills. Our road trip lasted for a couple of hours. During the t rip, Sergeant Major viewed the Drill Team Commander elucidate our ground rules when on a field trip. Just minutes after Graham finished speaking, the bus driver pulled into the parking lot of Penn Hills. While everyone is on the bus, the Lieutenant Commander hops out his vehicle and onto the school bus. I am uncertain of what Sergeant Major, Lieutenant Commander Morek and Stephon were conversing, but after that discussion, the DTC delegated leadership to each Unit Commander. Every cadet gathers behind our school bus, then the back door is open so we could collect the gear. As the cadet in charge, the DTC marches his platoon into our designated classroom. Both Sergeant Major and the Lieutenant Commander explain the battle buddy system in place for our program. The Drill Team Commander coordinates a time every Euclid NJROTC cadet should be changed into their uniforms and ready for practice. Unit Commanders are delegated more power by the DTC to take charge of their subordinates at specified times. Throughout my time being in the Navy Junior Reserve Officer’s Training Corps, Sergeant Major has shared a variety of aphorisms with his cadets.
