Gun Violence Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1
Gun Violence - Essay Example It is often put that gun violence is brought about by specific factors which to evidently would be untrue basing on findings on the subject (Reese, par. 20-24). Gun violence is attributed to a number of issues. These vary from lifestyle to economic reasons. For instance, social concerns are pinpointed as one of the reasons that yield to the tragedy. Such issues around the society as biases, social classification, just to mention but a few are termed as crucial in dictating gun violence. For instance, ethnic background and history confirm that black Americans are amongst the larger share of the victims involved. The problem is however, this same ethnicity is self targeted; an occurrence that raises question as to whether the issue is inter-ethnic or the contrary. In as much as the historical perceptions may have such a massive influence on the people there is more to the violence than the background can provide (Reese, par 5). The problem also arises with the nature in which the inventories of armories are handled. Evidently, there are approximately 283 million fire arms in the hands of the civilians. However this does not directly guarantee violence. It turns out that of this big number of civilian procession, most of the violence cases accrue from the firearms distributed by individual dealers. Roughly 30,000 firearms are unaccounted for annually from the dealersââ¬â¢ inventories. This makes the control of such distribution difficult especially given the policy guidelines (Reese, par. 4). Another paradigm significant in explaining the gun violence is the family and the society value system. There are several instances in records of homicidal and suicidal cases involving firearms in US. Most of these cases are unaccounted for by the media houses owing to the dynamic debates around them. When for example, a teenage girl indiscriminately shoots at her school mates and

Answer the two questions....Strategic planning Essay
Answer the two questions....Strategic planning - Essay Example The decline in rates of repair can be demonstrated in the numbers and the industry is growing smaller and smaller rather than growing globally (Street, 2012). In the past decade, more than four thousand businesses that dealt specifically with repair have had to close their businesses in the US alone with the decline largely affecting service centers that dealt with consumer electronics as more than ten thousand shops have closed or have sought other businesses that are more profitable. The service technicians with an ability to deal with consumer electronics, small appliances and household electronics are becoming more difficult to find and this somewhat restricts the rate at which shops are able to service high-end appliances. If technicians with appropriate training are not available, then the owners of the service shops are not able to remain ahead of their competition or expand their operations globally through attracting the appropriate forms of repair jobs. Without a sufficient number of repair jobs on high-en appliances, the owners of shops cannot be able to afford employing the best and most skilled technicians. In the recent past, most consumers are keen on having their products, which are covered by warranties, repaired at authorized service shops (Bostick & Freese, 2012). Usually, there are businesses which are ran privately while having contracts with the manufacturers of specific products, with the service technicians being trained by the manufacturer s themselves. Every so often, industry associations provide sponsorships for trade shows that provide opportunities for manufacturers to offer seminars so that owners of repair shops and their technician can be certified and re-certified. *.. Analyze the impact of national context as it pertains to the appliance repair industry. Does national context help or hinder these companies in achieving a competitive advantage in the global marketplace? The American market for home appliance has gone through

Sri Lankan travellers needs and expectations about airline websites Literature review
Sri Lankan travellers needs and expectations about airline websites - Literature review Example Increasing demands of the customers have forced almost every business to have their own website. Similarly the airline industry has also been actively participating in this race and many airlines now maintain very attractive and eye catching websites (Weeks and Crouch, 1999; Morrison et al., 1999). The recent years have seen many studies and researches in the field of website assessment (Liu, 2000, Olsina, 1999 and Barnes and Vidgeon, 2001). Although there is a great deal of variation in the website design and content amongst different industries nonetheless quite a few assessment tools with precise excellence criterion have been made (Kim, Shaw and Schneider, 2003). The flowchart regarding the website evaluation is given below: Figure: 1 Website Evaluation Flowchart (Park and Gretzel, 2007, p.48). Website evaluation methods used by different authors As the internet has developed very rapidly there has been a number of websites available now. This vastness of information and types of websites makes it a necessity there must be some sort of criteria for the evaluation of these websites so that a proper level of quality can be maintained and junk material could be avoided (Seoyoung and Jinwoo, 2004). In order to carry out this evaluation a study was carried out and the characteristics were collected and analyzed. The contents were divided in to a number of categories so that it becomes easy to evaluate each one. The 4 Ps category division by McCarthy (1976) was adapted as the initial division criterion These 4 Ps were ââ¬Å"product, price, promotion and point-of-saleâ⬠. It has been argued by some researchers that the above mentioned 4 Ps fit properly with the internet related stuff especially websites (Chaffey et al., 2003) however some other authors recommend total substitution of these 4 Ps (Constantinides, 2002; Kotler, 1998). A model for the adaptation of internet commerce has been developed by Burgess and Cooper (1999). The model is composed of 3 point s i.e. endorsement that relates knowledge regarding the corporation provision regarding interaction dispensation linked to online communication Ho (1997) uses an approach for website evaluation that is based upon the approach of phases. According to him the structure of the evaluation criterion is based upon 2 dimensional matrixes. First dimension is of ââ¬Å"purposeâ⬠which is divided into 3 further categories i.e. Promotion i.e. data regarding the services and products provided to the clients Provision i.e. presence of information in order to attain the exposure, good will, and credibility. Processing i.e. commerce dealings. The 2nd dimension is called ââ¬Ëvalue-createdââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢. This dimension is also divided into further categories named i.e. well-timed worth, custom significance, logistic worth and amazing value. Wan (2002) projected a tool for evaluating and ranking the international websites for tourists. He used 3 categories i.e. diversity of knowledge, user interface ease, and online reservation facility. ââ¬Å"Airline Site Evaluation Framework (ASEF)â⬠The website analysis of an air line usually address the requirement for ASEF i.e. a ââ¬Å"client-oriented Airline Site Evaluation Framework (ASEF)â⬠in which the assessment techniques and instrumentation methods developed previously were used with particular

Legalizing Marijuana Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Legalizing Marijuana - Research Paper Example It is also believed that India was one of the few countries which pioneered the consumption of this plant as a tool for recreation and relaxation. The Sadhus and the Gurus who practiced the art of spiritual elevation found this plant to be extremely useful for their purpose. They gained a lot from its usage whereby it was considered to be a holy drug. Earlier texts of Hinduism dictate that Marijuana was used by the Hindu Gods to evolve and to relax at the same time. (ElSohly, Mahmoud) Ancient Hindu text Soma Veda refers to Marijuana as the ââ¬Å"food of the thinking mind.â⬠Indians call it Ganja. It has served millions of people over a period of time and has been acclaimed as a life saving drug. However, there are side effects of this plant and if consumed by the innocent it may drive one to an extremely negative frame of mind. Marijuana comes from the plant known as Cannabis Sativa. The major psychoactive compound in the plant is known as THC, and this is the element which is responsible for the psychoactive effects in the human mind. The female plant of Cannabis Sativa is consumed by people as it is said to be more potent with THC than the male plant. (Rudgley, Richard) Marijuana has been used for medicinal as well as recreational purposes. Marijuana influences the human body and mind in many different ways. It has the power of changing the mood to the perception of the human mind for a particular object. It enhances hunger when consumed and can lead to weight loss among those who consume it. It relaxes the muscles and also helps the mind calm down after the THC molecules hit the ââ¬Ëcannabinoidââ¬â¢ receptors which are present in the human mind. The situation for the usage of Marijuana remains static as most of the countries have banned the recreational use of this drug, however, it is allowed in those countries to be used for medicinal purposes. (Gettman, Jon) For those who have tried and are not prejudiced towards it, it is
Reimbursement Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Reimbursement - Essay Example Over time, these products have brought about major health challenges to their users ranging from addiction to cancer of the throat and lungs. ââ¬Å" As a result, health expenditure by the government has only been going up without easing.â⬠(Jost, 1). Tobacco companies should help finance the healthcare costs associated with the use of their products. This is because they make profits while the government incurs expenses that could be avoided by simply putting the companies out of business. In order to be appealing to the consumer, companies use enticing words that attract more users. The enticements are in the form of low tar content, mild cigarettes, flavoured cigarettes and misrepresented information on tobacco. This information is widely misleading and depicts the irresponsible nature of tobacco companies, thus, the need to make them accountable for their deeds. These practices are blatantly deceptive, fraudulent, and aimed at misleading active consumers and other potential consumers. This can be done making them refund to the government funds used to treat and cater for tobacco related ailments. Also, tobacco companies go out of their way to make aggressive campaigns to women, youth and minority groups. These funds could, instead, be used in preventing ailments and expenses that result from tobacco use. ââ¬Å"Still on accountability, tobacco companies should reimburse the government because they are the reason that tobacco related ailments are prevalentâ⬠(Janofsky, Para. 2). They, therefore, should shoulder the blame for the part they play. Apart from this, tobacco companies, as a result of reimbursement, will have to bare their documents to the public. This will allow scrutiny by the public in order to understand how the tobacco industry functions. It will also expose the malpractices that these companies engage that are outside the normal business rules and standards. Thus, ââ¬Å"...to ensure accountability, tobacco companies should be given a choice to either reimburse the government for healthcare expenses, or conduct anti-tobacco campaigns, which use up the same profits they makeâ⬠(ââ¬Å"Benefits in Tobacco Dealâ⬠, Para. 5). With this, reimbursement promotes transparency in the business where they work towards ridding the country and society of tobacco addicts and especially smokers. In return, the companies provide less reimbursement and make sufficient profits for themselves. Health and financial benefits Reimbursement of the federal government by tobacco companies should be done in order to improve the health of the citizens. It should also be done to reduce the load that the taxpayer has to bear. Calls to reimburse the government have an opportunity to pave the way for the creation of new laws. By passing legislation that controls and regulates the tobacco industry, usage of tobacco and tobacco products will see a decline. This legislation will be very crucial because, the number of people using toba cco products will go down significantly and, thus, those exposed to second hand smoke will also benefit. Of all the people exposed to second-hand smoke, children and pregnant mothers form the bulk. Putting into consideration the effects that cigarette smoke has on children and unborn babies, reimbursement is set to put issues into perspective for tobacco companies. Therefore, reimbursement will promote improved health by reducing occurrences of smoking related

U.S History Post Civil War to Present Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
U.S History Post Civil War to Present - Essay Example Westward migration in America began when the first English colonists came to America seeking land for settlement and freedom of religion and social life. In Maryland and Virginia colonists began the process of migration when they moved to the interior of America in search for new land for tobacco cultivation. Although New England colonies also moved west in search for agricultural land, they also wanted to escape the strict religion of the Orthodox Church that was led by puritans. In Pennsylvania and New York migration and settlement patterns were different. Migration from southern parts of America to the west was due to long and violent Indian wars that ended in 1718. Keywords: Populous, Rich, West, East Coast, Agriculture, Mining, Railroad, World Wars, Pioneers, Frontiers, Colonists, Orthodox, Puritans, Religion Introduction The move by people in the United States from cities on the East Coast to the west was motivated by a number of factors. These factors include agriculture, mini ng, railroad, the World Wars and religion. The construction of railroads, discovery of gold in the southwest, agriculture and facilitation of transport for goods from the industrial centers to markets in the west through the railroad were the main factors that led to movement of people from the east coast to the west. By the end of the nineteenth century, Los Angeles and San Francisco located in the west began to grow as cities. However, almost half of the population lived on farms. The move by pioneers to the west was in three great waves. The first pioneers crossed the Appalachian Mountains and settled in the river valleys of Mississippi and Ohio between the 1770s and early 1880s. The second wave took place from the 1840s to the 1860s when pioneers moved from the East Coast to the West Coast settling in Oregon and California. The last movement to the west was in the 1860s when pioneers settled in the Great Plains. These movements ended in 1890 when the government of the United Sta tes decided that there were no more frontiers to be settled. Agriculture In early 1618, the head right system gave fifty acres of land to new immigrants in Maryland and Virginia provided that they cultivated tobacco. Sponsors who paid for passage of emigrants also got a share of the land; emigrants were required to help in cultivation and management of the vast tobacco farms. With time wealthy planters got to own the largest portions of the land forcing smaller farmers to move west in pursuit of land. In 1790, the United States had a population of approximately four million people. Farmers made up the largest population of the labor force. By 1850, the population had grown to over twenty three million people; farmers who had previously made up the largest population of the labor force had decreased. Original colonies had pushed away agriculture to the west and on the Great Plains. There was ample land in the west for agriculture and rearing of livestock. The quick growth of the farm equipment industry brought more land under cultivation fueling the demand for farming in the west. In the late 1870s and 1880s there was a huge demand for beef, all Native American reservations created a boom in the cattle industry. More ranchers focused on the prairies in the west where they grazed their cattle, cowboys who were mostly blacks were
